This chapter describes and discusses policy and policy research relevant to school-based counselling within the United Kingdom (UK). It begins with an overview of the educational context in which school-based counselling is situated before providing a brief historical perspective of such work within the UK. To contextualise these discussions, key policies and influential reports are introduced. The chapter then moves to outline the policy research that has been conducted around school-based counselling. Here an overview of the background to this research is provided before focusing upon the policy research itself. Summaries of the research that provides a snapshot of the current situation in the UK and the outcome research related to school-based counselling are provided. To end, an agenda for future work in this area is outlined.
