Abstract

The energy transition, intended as the construction of a new energy and social organization model based on the production and consumption of energy from renewable sources, with a view to distributed generation, cannot be further postponed. This transformation no longer represents a choice, but a necessity, which also becomes an opportunity to generate new production models and embrace new eco-sustainable behaviours. In this scenario, the activation of new forms of collective action and collaborative economies, such as energy districts and communities, are at the heart of the European Union’s development programs and constitute the cornerstones in which to trigger the green revolution in response to the climate crisis, but also to economic inequalities and socio-environmental injustices. In this context, the objective of the work is the redevelopment of an area in the district of S. Caterina in the Municipality of Reggio Calabria from an energy district perspective. The analysis showed that by drawing from the district’s virtual energy reservoir, the balance between energy productivity and needs is almost equal.
