Abstract

In this chapter, the basic principles of the characterization techniques used for studying the structure of sol-gel nanocomposites are presented. The main challenge is to determine the influence of the dispersed filler on the structure and properties of the nanocomposite. The different characterization techniques have been divided into four broad categories: scattering, microscopic, spectroscopic, and thermal analysis techniques. For each type of technique, examples of sol-gel nanocomposites characterization will be reported showing the information that can be inferred from the experimental data analysis.
