Abstract

A system has been set up in which data obtained from previously treated patients and stored into a data base are used to enable medical doctors to set up decision support systems based on artificial neural networks. The system contains a graphical interface in Visual Basic, a graphical interface in Matlab and a Visual Basic Tool for an easy to understand visualization of neural network outputs. The system has been tested using data from patients treated in the Esophageal Surgical Unit of School of Medicine of University of Genova in the period 1996 - 2000.
