Abstract

*[Ants of the genus Eciton are characterized by their raiding expeditions, & by their temporary colony clusters or 'bivouacs'. In the matter of raiding, species in which the advance is formed by a large mass of ants may be termed the 'swarm raiders', since their behavior is to be broadly distinguished from that of other species, the 'column raiders', in which the raiding is marked by relatively small advance groups that head narrow columns.]
