Describes the comprehensive integration of psychosocial research and practice within a specialized program for psychosocial services for children with cancer and their families in a pediatric hospital setting. The authors describe the theoretical underpinnings of their research program in a framework of social ecology. Within this program, clinical issues and concerns that have emerged in the course of management of children's cancer have guided research questions. The authors describe the clinical implications of their research and the clinical importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to develop an integrated program of research and clinical care in a hospital setting. Suggestions for developing and maintaining an integrated program of research and practice are presented. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
