Abstract

The implantation of an implantable cardioverter/defibrillator (ICD) is the cornerstone in primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death. Many trials showed the superiority of the ICD compared to other eg medicamentous options. This review highlights the indications for an ICD and summaries the most essential randomized clinical trials.
