Abstract

From the chloroform sol. fraction of the methanolic ext. of the corms of Gladiolus segetum Ker-Gawl (Iridaceae), 9 compds. were isolated and identified as follows: the lignans (+)-demethoxypinoresinol, (+)-pinoresinol and (+)-pinoresinol monomethylether; the neolignan (-)-dehydrodiconiferyl alc. and the anthraquinones deoxyerythrolaccin, physcion and laccaic acid D methylester together with 6'-O-palmitoyl-3-O-β-sitosterol glucoside and β-sitosterol-3-O-glucoside. The structures of the isolated compds. were detd. by phys. and spectroscopic methods including NMR and MS spectral anal. Compds. 1-4 and 6-9 are reported here for the first time from the genus Gladiolus while compd. 5 was previously isolated from the same plant. [on SciFinder(R)]
