Abstract
Circumcision has been practised throughout the Middle East at least since the beginning of recorded history and was reported in the medical literature of the earliest cultures. It is not surprising, therefore, that one of the first illustrations of a surgical procedure, a bas-relief from the tomb of Ankhmahor in Saqqara (Egypt; about 2200 BC), depicts a circumcision.
