Abstract

In order to cope with changes in demand and to maintain high efficiency in cellular manufacturing (CM) systems, this paper considers two methodologies; designing flexible cells and cell redesign based on demand at each period. These two methodologies are formulated mathematically. The solution method using the genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed by numerical experiments and the performance of the proposed methodologies is analyzed and compared with each other. © 2006 Springer.
