Abstract

The numerical model TELEMAC-2D is applied to a tributary of the Wesser estuary, the Hunte. In this tributary a high percentage of the incoming tidal energy is dissipated in a system of narrow bends. An estimation for the amount of energy dissipation resulting from bottom friction and turbulent dispersion is presented, which indicates that the latter plays an important role in this system. Therefore the advection schemes offered in TELEMAC-2D are compared with respect to their numerical diffusion. Copyright (C) 2000 John Wiley and Sons, Ltd.
