Abstract

Real-time visualization of seawater temperature information is strongly desired by aquaculture fishermen because water temperature fluctuation caused by tide inflow greatly affects fish and shellfish farming. In this research, we developed an announcement system for seawater temperature based on the demands from fishery researches and fishery workers. This system visualizes seawater temperature in Uwa Sea and conveys seawater temperature information to fishermen. The developed system consists of two sub-systems: seawater temperature accumulation and seawater temperature visualization. In the first system, the seawater temperature data measured by marine buoys deployed on the sea is stored on the server. In the second system, the latest and past seawater temperature can be visualized by using tables, graphs, and the three-dimensional (3D) map to provide the tendency of seawater temperature variation over time to users, i.e., fishery researches and fishery workers. In addition, the past seawater temperature information at arbitrary buoys and dates can be downloaded by the users. From experimental evaluations, we discuss the effectiveness of our developed system for users.
