Abstract

This chapter examines how the addition of CT localization to SPECT imaging has improved the diagnostic efficacy of nuclear medicine imaging in the detection and characterization of certain tumors, in particular neuroendocrine tumors, experimentally in prostate carcinoma, and in functional endocrine tumors specifically parathyroid adenomata and pheochromocytoma. Similar improvement has also been seen in the imaging of infection. Recent published evidence is reviewed and limitations explored.
