Abstract

The central problem in evolutionary ecology is argued to be that while natural selection operates on the phenotype only the genes record the history of selection, and population biologists have not yet been able to examine these issues simultaneously. Debate also focuses on ideas of fitness, optimality and microevolution.-P.J.Jarvis
