Abstract

The history of astronomical photoelastic polarimeters is briefly outlined. A description is given of a system of this type which has been in continuous use at Pine Mountain Observatory for six years. The instrument has produced data at the sensitivity level of 0.01%, with long-term absolute reproducibility.
