A commercial ultrasonic flow meter in combination with a new probe flange is subjected to the disturbed flow downstream of a 90? bend and a double bend, respectively. The probe flange determines the flow structure by swirl-angle measurements. Simultaneously, the error shift of the meter is recorded. A mathematical link is established that relates the flow structure to the error shift.With this link the error shift can be predicted for any position of the meter, which means that the meter can be corrected. It is shown that not only the mean error shift, but also the circumferential error shift of the meter, can be significantly reduced. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
