Introduction: complementary therapies (CT) are increasingly used by most users, even more applied by the same health professionals trained for this matter. Objective: to describe the experience of health professionals using CT in their professional practice. Methodology: Literature review of 21 articles that were found in the databases PubMed, Cochrane Librery, ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source, PsycINFO and SciElo, which met the inclusion cri- teria and methodological rigor by type of study. Results: the professionals are motivated to implement change therapies because the current biomedical paradigm, gives them greater Experiencia de los profesionales de la salud al implementar terapias complementarias... autonomy, allowing them to deliver holistic care and combine the natural with care. Although the current regulations, the lack of evidence, time, training and the medical establishment opposition impede its implementation. However, more meaningful for them has been greater personal growth and increased job satisfaction. Conclusions: the professionals perceive that using CT in practice, deliver a holistic, binding and person-centered care, which increases your personal and professional satisfaction, feeling the patient the greatest benefit.
