The measurement of ultrashort laser pulses has traditionally experienced difficulties. Even now, newly proposed techniques for doing so are often extremely complex, containing as many as a dozen sensitive alignment parameters. As a result, such techniques may be more likely to introduce a distortion than to measure it. © 2007 Springer-Verlag New York.
