Introduction

Abstract

This chapter provides an introduction to Fog Computing. It presents the technological challenges that arise with the emergence of IoT, Smart Cities and other IoT applications and also the synergy between Big Data and IoT. It presents on how Fog Computing paradigm emerges as a solution, the characteristics of Fog Computing, Fog Architectures, products such as IoX, cloudlet, ParStream, Prismatic Vortex, etc. It delves into components of Fog platforms, Fog applications such as Smart Homes, Smart Villages, Health monitoring and support, Agriculture, Smart Vehicles and Augmented Reality applications.
