Abstract

Grains of a. f.c.c. polycrystals undergo heterogeneous plastic deformation and develop substructures even under imposed homogeneous deformation. The developed intense; non-uniformity of deformation leads to shear and deformation banding, and it significantly affects the texture formation. Recently proposed rigid plastic rate-independent crystal plasticity based 'stack of domains' model of a grain (And Kumar and Mahesh. 2012), capable to predict banding, is applied to simulate a f.c.c. polyerystalline material under rolling deformation. Subdivision of grains as banding under imposed homogeneous deformation is predicted and mapped over the entire orientation space. The banding predictions are compared with the available experimental observations from the literature and excellent agreement is found. The effect, of banding on rolling texture formation is also quantified.
