Abstract

This document provides guidance to designers of Authentication,Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) key management protocols. Theguidance is also useful to designers of systems and solutions thatinclude AAA key management protocols. Given the complexity anddifficulty in designing secure, long-lasting key managementalgorithms and protocols by experts in the field, it is almostcertainly inappropriate for IETF working groups without deepexpertise in the area to be designing their own key managementalgorithms and protocols based on Authentication, Authorization, andAccounting (AAA) protocols. The guidelines in this document apply todocuments requesting publication as IETF RFCs. Further, theseguidelines will be useful to other standards developmentorganizations (SDOs) that specify AAA key management.
