Abstract

More than 30 years have passed since HIV/AIDS first emerged as an epidemic. Through significant developments in treatment options, people are living longer with HIV than ever before, with life expectancy approaching those in the general population. However, antiretroviral therapies do not offer a cure and many are associated with significant side effects. An integrative approach utilizing lifestyle modifications can lead to numerous benefits, including improvement of immune function, better tolerability of symptoms, and most importantly, increased quality of life. Through the incorporation of HIV medications with nutrition, exercise, and stress-reduction strategies, patients can be empowered to achieve greater health and longevity.
