Pediatric Skull: Normal Pediatric Sutures on Computed Tomography

Abstract

Knowledge of normal suture lines is necessary to recognize abnormalities and normal variants in pediatric patients and even later in adults. The typical, normally patent sutures that can be seen in children under 6 months of age are shown in Fig. 25.1. The following pages describe normal anatomy of the sutures of the skull base, basiocciput, and orbitofrontal region that can simulate fractures or other disease in children and less commonly in adults.
