Dynamic Capabilities (DC) are directly related to organizational success as they represent strategic high-level capabilities responsible for articulation, restructuring and creation of organizational processes and routines. The adoption, implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Management System (EMS) provides a framework centered on innovation management routines, processes, skills and capabilities, thus being a source of DC and innovation. The study aims to map and describe the DC that supports the adoption and maintenance of an EMS in Military Organization. To answer the research question a qualitative methodology was adopted through a single case study. The techniques of data collection were interviews, document analysis, direct and participatory observation. After analyzing the data were identified nine Dynamic Capabilities (continuous optimization of management and control results; optimizing the use of water and energy; sustainable culture; periodic auditing; continuous employee training; continuous training of the environmental manager; selection of the service provider; selection of the cooperative; and continued renewal of environmental management practices) involved in the adoption and maintenance of the EMS Military Organization.
