Abstract

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are a considerable public health problem. Since 2005 and particularly in the last five years, the incidence of STDs has significantly increased. In the graphs by age, the group under 19 years old is a population with a large number of STDs, and thus, being a highly vulnerable group. This article describes the most prevalent STDs in our environment, how they are transmitted, who they affect, and how we can diagnose and treat them. Additionally, it is very important to introduce early sex education, dealing with it in both parents and adolescents, in a natural way, so as to improve education and information. It is of great relevance that health professionals are up to date, knowing how to conduct a detailed clinical history to comprehensively address the affective-sexual health of our patient. Similarly, they must know the updated diagnostic and treatment guidelines to improve the care of our patients, and take advantage of the consultation for tailored counseling.
