Abstract

Technological innovation is a complicated systematic project, which requires organizations have the appropriate characteristics and conditions. Many SMEs will be faced with difficulties such as capital, talent, information, and technology accumulation issues and challenges in their independent innovation process. Therefore, take the organization form of cooperative innovation is the ideal choice for many SMEs. Cellular organization just is an important form of cooperative innovation for SMEs. It has gained prominence in recent years as a new kind of adaptive organizational form. This paper proposes four philosophies to describe the disciplines necessary for SMEs' cellular organization effective operation. Proximity, common goal and trust culture, holonic management and instant adaptation to change are recognized significant factors that explain the effectiveness of SMEs' cellular innovation form. The purpose of this paper is to establish a theoretical framework for describing the discipline of cellular form for SMEs' cooperative innovation. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH Berlin Heidelberg.
