Abstract

The body contains many bulges, growths and holes. Here, the grotesque finds expression in the fleshy protrusions and orifices of the genitals. The grotesque nature of mutated genitals is discussed using the novel Dr. Adder (1984), and the comedy-horror films Bad Biology (2008) and One-Eyed Monster (2008). This chapter also examines the castrating power of the avenging woman and female genitals using the film Teeth (2007) and Clive Barker’s 1985 short story ‘The Madonna’. The extreme links between sex and death, the mutilated and the desecrated body, are explored using the films The Evil Dead (1981), Zombie Strippers (2008) and Antichrist (2009), the German horror film Nekromantik 2 (1991) and the novel Blood and Guts in High School (1984).
