Based on social cognitive career theory, this article proposes a social cognitive transition-to-work model in which the relationships among self-efficacy, outcome expectations and goals are explored. On a sample of 629 Portuguese university students, the present study analyses the relationships among transition-to-work self-efficacy, job-search behaviours, outcome expectations and career commitment goals. The results show that self-efficacy predicts both outcome expectations and goals. In addition, outcome expectations also predicted goals, although this relationship is partially mediated by self-efficacy. Implications for further research and intervention are briefly discussed.
