This chapter argues that becoming and serving in the role of advocate may be the most important and socially beneficial responsibility that psychologists can take on. This chapter will first define what advocacy means for psychologists, then discuss the crucial role that students can serve in advocacy and the importance of such involvement during graduate school. Next, the importance of advocacy for the future of our discipline and for the health of our society is highlighted and, finally, opportunities for advocacy that are available to psychologists and psychology graduate students are presented.
