Abstract

To explore effects of video feedback teaching method on clinical skill teaching of abdomen physical examination in undergraduate clinical medicine specialty students. The 100 students of two small class, being selected from 09 grade clinical medicine specialty of China Three Gorges University, were randomly divided into observation group (video feedback teaching method, N = 50) and the control group (traditional teaching methods, N = 50). Three time video of abdomen physical examination completed by observation group students were collected. First video is primary ones taken by each other during 1st experimental skill trains, second video is the most satisfactory ones after repeated self practice within 3 weeks since the 1st train class, and final video is test ones taken by at the fifth weeks since the 1st training class and meanwhile, questionnaires for the students to be completed. In control group, only test video is taken and questionnaires to be completed at the same time. According to score evaluation criterion of the abdomen physical examination, the scores of first video is significantly lower than the most satisfactory ones in observation group. The students' numbers of after-class abdomen physical examination exercise is more in observation group than in control group. The scores of the test video is significantly higher in observation group than in control group. Questionnaires investigation of students show three major factors promoting video feedback teaching method are to promote students' self-control ability, improve the training equipment, renew education idea. Video feedback teaching method is a practical and more effective teaching method in the clinical skills training for medical students compared with the traditional teaching method, it is worth to popularize in clinical skills teaching in medical college. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014.
