Abstract

The chapter begins with a short summary explaining what is physical chemistry, and the role of chemical thermodynamics within. Essentials of the historical development along with the origin of the name “thermodynamics� is also given. At the end of the chapter, the origin of postulatory thermodynamics is briefly described.
