Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the prevalence of body dissatisfaction, body checking, media influence and eating behavior in college students of Life Sciences from the city of Juiz de Fora-MG. 207 students of both sexes, from different institutions (private and public), took part in the study. As assessment tools we used: Body Shape Questionnaire, Eating Attitudes Test-26; Sociocultural Towards Appearence Questionnaire-3, and Body Checking Questionnaire for women and Male Body Checking Questionnaire for men. From the findings, it was concluded that higher prevalence of body dissatisfaction and inappropriate eating behaviors was identified among women. Regarding the influence of the media, it was observed that both sexes felt pressured to adopt the standard body exposed by the media. Finally, it was observed that men and women had high frequency behavior of body checking.
