Abstract

A total of 12 him mutations (which cause increased self progeny male frequencies) have been studied in this lab, as well as one unc mutation which also has a him effect. The mutations and some of their properties are listed below (20 C phenotypes) : All strains produce a small percentage of XXX hermaphrodites. Enhanced production of diplo-X ova has been demonstrated in all strains. him-1, him-6 and him-8 appear to affect the first (reductional) but not the second (equational) meiotic division in oocytes, and also affect meiosis in spermatocytes of transformed (XX) males.
