Abstract

The Knowledge the Incidence of Phlebitis is one Indicator of Good Hospital Care. Nurses' knowledge and behavioral prevention are important to reduce incidence of phlebitis. This study aimed to determine the relationship among level of knowledge about intravenous therapy and nurses' characteristics (age, education, employment, training, and unit where they work) and behavioral prevention of phlebitis. This descriptive analytic study used cross sectional approach and involved 101 ward's nurses that were selected by stratified random sampling technique. The instrument used was validated questionnaires on knowledge of intravenous therapy and behavioral prevention of phlebitis (r Alpha = 0,657). Data were analyzed using chi square tests. The results showed relationship between the level of nurses' knowledge of intravenous therapy and behavioral prevention of bacterial phlebitis (p<0,001; OR=5,23 CI 95% 1,913,8). It is recommended to increase nurses' knowledge of intravenous therapy through training and nursing rounds more regularly programmed.
