Abstract

Accurate measurements of the shape strain associated with the formation of two orthorhombic martensite plates in Cu-15 at.% Sn have been made. The measurements are examined using the recently proposed double shear theory of martensitic transformations and it is shown that for this transformation the hypothesis that the complementary strain is composed of two strains, appears to be untenable. © 1972.
