The development of both the philosophy of and the hardware for data analysis in sound and vibration at the I.S.V.R. during the past decade is described, in the context both of earlier progress in the subject in the Department of Aeronautics (as it then was) of the University of Southampton and of the rapid contemporaneous progress in both the mathematical techniques and electronic products for digital computation. © 1973 Academic Press Inc.
