Abstract

This paper examines the various steps involved in the analysis of cable structures under static loads and their response to dynamic forces due to gust and wind loads. The analyses described allow for nonlinearities and are based on the minimization of the total potential energy, using gradient methods. Dynamic analyses for dynamic loads due to wind are also considered. The damping capacity of tension roof structures and the effects of various structural parameters on damping are discussed. Existing experimental data and numerical prediction from various references are included in the paper. © 1992.
