Stored deformation energy of undercooled austenite at 780 °C for Fe-0.073% C steel is in the order of 5 J/mol, corresponding to the dislocation density in the order of 1014 m-2. After deformation at 780 °C with 5 J/mol stored deformation energy, proeutectoid ferrite growth rate is accelerated by 2.2%. In this work, the effect of hot deformation below Ae3 on proeutectoid ferrite growth rate is not significant. © 2007 Central Iron and Steel Research Institute.
