Abstract

A scattering chamber facility for the investigation of charge-state modifications under channeling conditions was built at the Institute for Nuclear Physics (Frankfurt) in cooperation with the Debrecen group. The chamber and its facilities are situated on a bent beam line after the RFQ post-accelerator of the 14.4 GHz ECR Ion Source. The irradiation facility is furnished with a long (3.4 m) collimating path to assure the parallel beam at the target position. The e target holder itself is mounted on a small goniometer making possible the measurement of the scattered particles both in back-scattering and in forward-scattering geometry. The scattered charged particles are detected by surface barrier (PIPS) detectors. The modifications of the charge states under channeling conditions are measured by using thin crystalline Silicon membranes. To separate the different charge states a post-accelerator facility is designed. From the shape of the collected spectrum after post-acceleration it is possible to determine the ratio of different charged states produced during the transmission ion channeling.
