Abstract

A theoretical model for the radiation induced conductivity of gases has been developed. The model gives the electrical current as a function of voltage, gas volume, pressure, molecular atomic number and ionizing dose rate. Different experiments have been carried out in a Van de Graaff electron accelerator in order to check the model. The model is found to predict the observed experimental data to such a degree as to give confidence in the extrapolated predictions. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
