Abstract

A description of the PIXE setup installed at a 3 MV Van de Graaff accelerator is presented. The target chamber was designed to cater for NRA, PIXE and RBS methods. Two Si(Li) X-ray detectors, a HPG γ-ray detector and a charge particle detector may be simultaneously installed in the chamber. The 3,4-position sample holder is moved by a stepper motor. The data-acquisition and analysis system are based on PC computers. An external memory unit was constructed to collect the pulses from 4 ADCs and the integrator. The software offers a possibility of fully automatic measurements of 34 samples. The analysis of the spectra is performed off-line using a separate PC computer.
