Abstract

Intermediate products of atmospheric photochemistry such as radicals and unvolatile products like H2SO4 have a high tendency of attaching to or condensing on suspended particles. This is the basic idea of developing an on-line indicator of atmospheric pollution via particle growth. The apperatus consists of an aerosol generator and a Tandem Differential Mobility Analyzer (TDMA) with a flow type smog chamber in the middle in which the photochemical process in environmental air is simulated. Particle growth in the size range of a monolayer can easily be detected. © 1992.
