The hitherto unknown compounds Ni5GeB2O10 (A) and Ni5ZrB2O10 (B) were prepared and investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. (A) and (B) crystallize with orthorhombic symmetry, space group D2h9 - Pbam. The lattice parameters are (A) a = 9.182, b = 12.140, c = 2.984 A ̊; (B) a = 9.312, b = 12.328, c = 3.060 A ̊, Z = 2. All metal ions are octahedrally coordinated by O2-. Boron is trigonal planar coordinated. One of the metal atom positions has a statistical distribution of Ni2+ and Ge4+ or Zr4+ respectively. © 1989.
