Abstract

The results of the work performed on reducing sulfate scale formation in desalination of the Aral Sea water in a 10-stage distillation desalination plant DOU-10 with horizontal tube film evaporators are described. Two methods of reducing calcium sulfate scale formation are first investigated under laboratory conditions: (1) thermal softening of seawater and (2) introduction of scale inhibitor of aminophosphate type ΠAΦ-13A on these investigations and taking into account specific operating conditions for desalination plant, the second method was adopted. The implementation of this method allowed to reduce sharply the amount of calcium sulfate scale formation and prolong the intercleaning period of plant operation. © 1996, All rights reserved.
