Room temperature treatment of (η-C5H5)NbCl4 with a stoichiometric amount of (Me3Si)2NMe in acetonitrile, gives (η-C5H5)NbCl2(NCH3) in 87% yield. The X-ray structure reveals a three-legged piano stool geometry with a NbN bond length of 1.752(2) Å and a NbNC angle of 163.4(3)°. © 1989.
