Abstract

A theoretical analysis of the propagation of short light pulses in a dispersive medium is presented. By using the full power series expansion of the dispersive phase, a representation of the propagation radiation as a sum of so called "temporal modes" is obtained. It is shown that the spectral properties of different temporal modes may be used to control the pulse temporal profile. © 1988.
