Abstract

Apparent changes in weight recorded by a mass-flow balance during experiments carried out by heating samples near, but not on, the balance platform have been ascribed to pressure gradients developing around the platform. The extent of such changes varies with the design of the balance system and the effect has also been observed using a micro-balance and a suspension balance mechanism. © 1981.
