The Baseball-Radio War, 1931-1935

Abstract

Walker talks about the baseball-radio war in 1931-1935. The conflict was a minor battle between Major League Baseball owners and radio in the larger press-radio war. In an agreement between the radio industry and the newspaper industry, radio news would have to be unsponsored and limited times that would insure that morning and evening newspapers would always present the news first. Within this context, baseball-radio coverage restrictions were clearly supported by newspapers and were part of the print media attempts to control its competition.
