In 2010, the Malaysian economy recorded strong growth at 7.2% after experiencing a decline in 2009. The bulk of this growth was driven by robust domestic demand especially through the private sector activities. Members of the Board of Cooperative and internal auditors are required to attend compulsory courses in line with strategy to strengthen and streamline the governance, management, finance and cooperatives regulations; Streamlining the laws and regulations to encourage the development of cooperatives; and The cooperative sector as a socio-economic entity recorded earning growth of 7% for the financial year 2010 (RM9.50 billion) as compared to 2009 (RM8.92 billion). This earning is part of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) amounting to RM559.6 billion. Cooperative activities in the financial services remained to be a significant contributor to the revenues of the cooperative movement in Malaysia.
