Abstract

In this study we used a statistical analysis, based on a sub-sample of participants enrolled in the fifth years of Computer Science Department of Batna (Algeria) University, the effects of an online environment reading comprehension were investigated. The students' native language was Arabic, and they were learning English as a second foreign language. The two research questions of this study are: 1. Are there any differences in students' reading paper-andpencil / web mode? 2. Are there any differences in students' reading individual / collaborative mode? The paper proves that working with our online learning environment significantly improved the students' motivation and positively affected higher-level knowledge and skills. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
